Recently learned I apparently am suffering from a condition called “Soloitis” otherwise known as ‘Being Single’.
It’s not a rare disease, affecting approximately 46.4% of Americans over the age of 18.
Thankfully, it’s not Soloitis with complications – loneliness, depression, fear of rejection, ROCD, societal pressure and anxiety.
I didn’t catch it from anyone, it’s self inflicted, which means you can’t catch it from me either. So friendly hugs are okay.
I wasn’t aware it was an issue, I mean it doesn’t impact my daily activities like work or chores around the house and I feel like it actually helps with my writing, however, it has been brought to my attention, more than once, so I did some research.
Some benefits of Soloitis:
More time to myself, ability to focus, doing only what I want, only worrying about MY feelings and interests, freedom from being ‘tied down’, not having to check in with someone, not having to share space, not being infected with someone else’s negative energy, etc… Overall, just all around joy and happiness! ![]()
So, even though I’m afflicted, I will not suffer. I will go forth into the world with courage and optimism.
Despite what all those 90’s rom coms said!
Just wanted to share in case anyone else had the same condition, you are not alone! I mean, you’re still ALONE, just not alone in the having it.![]()
Looking for a NOT ‘you complete me because I’m only half a person without you’ movie to watch. Check out Last Christmas with the dragon lady herself – Emilia Clarke
– who coincidentally is rumored to be single at the moment too!
Merry Christmas!
